Bureaucracy India brings out the Extract of ‘Skill Matters’, the news letter of NSDC, with a view to inform our readers the gigantic steps being taken by this premium organization towards the fulfillment of our PM, Modi’s vision of Skilling India.
A MOMENTOUS HAPPENING : 6 HOURS AT NSDC
January 19 had a very special visitor at the NSDC office in Delhi. The Honourable Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy visited and held an impromptu town hall meeting with Team NSDC. He interacted with the leadership at NSDC and shared his vision and ideas for the future, to help NSDC scale its outcome for skilling India effectively, efficiently and in quick time.
MEGA RECRUITMENT DRIVE IN JAMMU
Udaan conducted a mega recruitment drive in Jammu from 15-16 December, 2014. The two day recruitment drive turned out to be a success with over 1100 youth from Jammu participated in the selection process. 24 corporates representing a wide range of sectors i.e. IT, ITES, Consulting, Banking and Security Services conducted more than 1000 interviews over two days. Some of India’s largest corporates, including Manpower, IL&FS Education and Technology Services Ltd. (IETS), CGI, Reliance HR Services, Accenture, Mount Talent, CMC Ltd and Others, participated in the drive. NSDC plans to conduct similar drives in all the districts of Jammu & Kashmir by end of March 2015.
REACHING OUT : HUNAX YATRA AT PRAVASI BHARTIYA DIVAS
Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, called on the nation to join hands with him in taking a pledge to make India the Skill Capital of the world. Participating In the 13th Annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) event in Gandhinagar, the Prime Minister also visited the skills pavilion set up by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship for the first time paticipated at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) exhibition with a specially created pavilion named “HUNAR YATRA”.
FORGING NEW ALLIANCE : MoU SIGNING WITH POWER GRID AND NSDF
In a first of its kind partnership, Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID), National Skill Development Fund (NSDF) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have signed a tripartite agreement with that will see POWERGRID contribute its CSR funds for skill development activities aligned to National Skills Qualification Framework.
As per the agreement, POWERGRID will contribute 6.52 crore to the NSDF and NSDC will implement the project to provide skill training to 5,000 youth in 33 locations across 26 states identified by the contributor.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Pawan Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (designated CEO – NSDF); Mr. I.S. Jha, Director (Projects), Power Grid Corporation of India and Mr. Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC in the august presence of the Honourable Minister of Skill Deelopment & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
FORGING NEW ALLIANCE : PARTNERSHIP WITH SEVA
Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) signed an agreement with NSDC to collaborate for its project named ‘Kaushalaya’, which has two main objectives :
- Provide skills training to 136, 313 informal economy women workers in 4 priority sectors, in a span of 10 years, in the state of Gujrat.
- Create access to finance for 96, 157 informal economy women workers of Gujrat to get skills and investment in their livelihoods.
The model is a training-cum-loan-cum-employment, wherein interested informal economy women members will first opt for the skills training, post which they will take a loan from one of the project partners, and then invest it in their livelihood development, thereby increasing their income.
SCALING THE SKILLING ECOSYSTEM : PARTNERSHIP WITH GOVERNMENT OF KERELA
Launch of Sandesh One Project
Sandesh One, India’s largest network of women social entrepreneurs offering technologies and solutions at the grassroots level, was formally inaugurated in Thiruvananthapuram by Chief Minister of Kerela Mr. Oommen Chandy on 12th January 2015, in the presence of Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
The first of its kind public-private partnership (PPP) social enterprise Sandesh One, is an initiative of the Kerela State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) in association with IL & FS Skills, one of NSDC training partner, and Alterneit. The project aims to create Sandesh One centres at 1,000+ local bodies in the state, managed by women trained under a certification program in entrepreneurship by IIM, Ahmedabad, with the curriculum being developed by IL & FS Skills.
NSDC and KASE tie up in Skill Development
Strengthening its skill development initiatives in the state, the Kerela Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) entered into a partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for a range of activities including training, capacity building and certification.
In this regards a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between NSDC and KASE in the presence of Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. KASE is rapidly expanding its presence through various initiatives across the state.
MAKING SKILLS INNOVATIVE
To encourage innovation in the field of skill development and entrepreneurship, the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) initiated a process for inviting ideas, evaluating them, and providing an opportunity for selected innovations to be applied across a wider canvas. To implement this, a committee on Skills Innovation Initiative was set up recently under the Chairmanship of Mr. S. Ramadorai Chairman, NSDA and NSDC. The Committee also include the Secretary MSDE, Mr. Sunil Arora, Joint Secretary, MSDE, Mr. Jyotsna Sitling, the Director General NSDA, Mr. J.P. Rai and MD & CEO, NSDC, Mr. Dilip Chenoy.
The first meeting of the Committee was held on 17 December 2014. A total of 129 proposals across various sectors that had been received till 9 December, 2014 and evaluated by the Internal Screening Committee of NSDA, resulted in following five proposals being shotlisted and invitedd for presentation before the Committee Members.
