President Droupadi Murmu Takes Historic Sortie in Rafale Fighter Jet at Ambala Airbase

President Droupadi Murmu created history on October 29, 2025, by taking a sortie in the Rafale fighter jet at the Ambala Airbase in Haryana.
With this flight, she became the first Indian President to fly in both the Rafale and Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The President arrived at Ambala Air Force Station in the morning, where Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari and senior IAF officers received her with ceremonial honours.

The Rafale Fighter Jet Sortie at Ambala Airbase

The Rafale sortie lasted nearly 30 minutes and covered around 200 kilometres.
The aircraft climbed to an altitude of about 15,000 feet and reached speeds near 700 km/h.
President Murmu sat in the rear cockpit wearing a full G-suit and helmet while the pilot demonstrated key flight manoeuvres.

The flight displayed the Rafale fighter jet’s advanced combat capabilities and India’s growing air-power potential.
