Pahalgam Terror Attack : Jammu & Kashmir Hit by Deadliest Assault Since 26/11

India witnessed one of the deadliest terror attacks since 26/11 in the form of Pahalgam Terror Attack on Tuesday morning, April 23rd.

Gunmen opened fire on innocent tourists in the picturesque Baisaran meadow, near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The horrifying Pahalgam terror attack has left the entire nation in shock and mourning.

What really happened?

The incident took place around 10:30 AM, when tourists from all over the country were enjoying their vacation. The lush green pastures of Baisaran, is also known as ‘Mini Switzerland’.

 

According to the survivors, 4-6 armed terrorists, dressed in military-styled uniform, emerged suddenly from the nearby forest.

They began asking for names and identity cards of the tourists, targeting non-muslim men. Sparing most of the women, they asked the victims to recite kalma, and checked for circumcision. 

Upon failing the terrorists shot dead the victims in front of their families. The peaceful meadow turned into a scene of chaos and bloodshed.

According to the reports, at least 26 civilians were killed, including Indian tourists and two locals and two foreign tourists from Nepal and United Arab Emirates. At least 20 others were injured. 

Among the deceased were children, elderly, and honeymooning couples, a 26 year old Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official.

Who’s Responsible?

The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Actions Taken in next 24 hours!

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a massive search operation across the region.

J&K police killed two terrorists in the ongoing operation in Baramulla. Incident took place on Wednesday morning, a day after the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack.

The Ministry of Home Affairs assured the public of taking strict action, and called for a high-level review meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia. He condemned the Pahalgam attack, stating, “This is not just an attack on individuals, but on the spirit of India. We will not rest until justice is delivered.”

The Union Home minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar to assess the situation.

Entire globe stands in solidarity with India against the heinous attack.
